when we asked them if they like music. & they played
In 2003 the Doing Hope through Music project opened its' doors at the Mamelodi Music School
Though back then they started with nine violins they have quickly managed to swell that number to twenty-seven. An impressive feat. However, as the school teaches approximately 70 violin (and 50 recorder) students, the students are forced to share their violins.
Through the amazing leadership of Betsie Meyer (violin) and Christine McLachlan the Doing Hope through Music project has achieved some outstanding results! These include:
First place for Instrumental ensemble at the UNISA competition in 2005 & 2006
Cythia Nkuna- Overall winner in the instrumental category, 93% for Trinity group exam and first prize for her stunning instrumental solo.
8 graduates at UNISA- Grade 1
1 graduate at UNISA- Grade 3 (with an order of merit)
It's due to the resolve of the teachers in difficult circumstances that they have managed to make the Hope Through Music project such a resounding success.
