  1. Biography All about Lex Futshane

    Lex Futshane is a prolific composer, arranger, educator, performer and an internationally proclaimed bassist (electric and acoustic), who spent many years in Durban performing, arranging and lecturing in the music department at the University of KwaZulu Natal, from which he is also a graduate.

    He played bass and co-arranged on many recordings such as “Art Gecko” - Counterculture, “Durban Noise” – Jurgen Braunninger, “African Tributes- NU Jazz Connection, “Old Blue Balls Is Back”- Felema, “Before it’s too late”- Darius Brubeck to name just a few.

    He has played with most of South African musicians the likes of Winston “Mankunku” Ngozi, Bheki Mseleku, Zim Ngqawana, Feya Faku, Tu Nokwe, and Ezra Ngcukana the list goes on. Lex has performed in many festivals both locally and abroad such as the Grahamstown Art Festival, Awesome Africa Festival, Arts Alive, Bath International Music Festival in the United Kingdom, IAJE in the United States of America, Japan and Seoul in South Korea.

    He has toured and performed extensively around the world such as in the Swaziland, Zambia, Maputo, USA, Cuba, Korea, Germany to name just a few. Lex has a very exciting band that performs mostly his own compositions and arrangements of jazz standards by local and international artists.
