  1. Biography All about Ilse-Louise Herholdt

Ilse-Louise Herholdt is a full time professional musician, performer, arranger, writer and producer.

She started her career in music by studying at the University of Pretoria, completing her B Mus, specializing in performance piano and flute. From 1993-1997 she received an achievement bursary from UP, and graduated Cum Laude. She also obtained a teachers licentiate at UNISA during that time.

After her studies she developed a keen interest in jazz, contemporary and rock music, and also took up the cello, saxophone (both alto and tenor), pan flute, harmonica and bass guitar.

Ilse-Louise also completed her Master’s Degree in music specializing in performance flute and composition at WITS.

Pending her graduation she will be reading for her Doctorate in music in the new year.

Ilse-Louise has extended her talents into various fields of performance, both locally and internationally. She has performed as the tour pianist for cabaret artist Helena Hettema, and has also worked with Anna Davel and Jacques De Koning.

Her enormously successful bands such as Double Delight and TownTalk has performed for Oprah Winfrey, Hugh Masakela and a whole Christmas production with Kurt Darren. She has also shared the stage with well-known South African artists such as Patricia Lewis, Mel Botes, Pieter Smit, Amor and PJ Powers.

Besides teaching privately, she also runs her own recording studio, producing and arranging entire CD productions and backtracks for several well established South African artists. Using her talents as a multi-instrumentalist she performs as solo artist (and as a stand-in for several other established bands) and also runs and performs with her eight ensembles; TownTalk, Safire, Double Delight, The (Saxy) Three Tenors, Blue Strings, GUCI, TLC (Three Lovely Cellos) and Latino Junction. Ilse-Louise performs regularly at Emperors Palace Casino as a solo artist and with Safire every Wednesday in the sigarbar Mark Antony's.

She also performs as solo artist at other functions playing classical, contemporary, rock, pop and jazz. In recent times she has been performing as a regular stand-in for several Barnyard theatres playing various instruments as well as being the principal stand-in keyboadist for the phenomenal Lion King production that showed at Monty Casino.

In her free time she works with the founder of the band Watershed, Ronald Powell and newcomer Michael Healy, on a new rock band project, and is currently completing various CD productions on which she plays her eight instruments; piano, flute, alto sax, tenor sax, cello, pan flute, harmonica and bass guitar. Ilse has just completed a Christmas album for TownTalk called “Christmas is coming to town” as the producer.

Her latest achievements include her Master’s Degree concert CD (featuring works from Claude Bolling) in flute, a classical piano album and a solo hip-hop/kwaito solo album - all of which will be available April 2008.
