  1. Biography What this teacher is about...

Libbie du Toit has played the violin from the age of five, completed her B. Mus. in Stellenbosch by the guidance of professor Jack de Wet – since, the music has just kept on sounding better.

Later, she further honed her skills in Holland, Groningen where she completed her Dos. Mus. Diploma while travelling and performing with the world renowned Ricciotti Orchestra.

On return to South Africa Libbie spent her time teaching at St. Andrews and Buskaid before setting up her own violin studio from where she has been teaching since.

Out of the country, to Indonesia, she has been invited to give master classes twice at the Rhapsody school of music in Surabaya.

In 2007 she honourably performed as Maestro Vivaldi in a premier of his Serenata a tre (RV 690) where she received a standing ovation and a medallion from the South African ambassador to Italy.

And, recently she performed in period dress with a radical new theatre Sing with Lizz Meiring, Tobie Cronje, Terence Bridgett and music composed by David Boverhoff.

Currently she is grooming a baroque ensemble of music and dance, Banda di Broccoli, which is intended for live performance, corporate facilitated team building with dance in dress and social networking.

When the chamber is at rest she plays with the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra, Johannesburg Musical Initiative, Miagi, the Salon Five ensemble and other musical friends such as Camelia Onea’s String pack.

After all this, Libbie has returned to her initial tutor Professor Jack de Wet in Table View for continued master classes and to understudy his lifelong achievements with teaching the violin.

Relaying Jack’s torch for future violinists.
